The Dharma Corner
I was raised catholic, but to be honest, it never stuck with me. It didn't make too much sense, it seemed arbitrary?
I always thought that it was sad, being a decent person only out of fear. I don't really believe in "higher powers", but even if I did, I would still try to use my autonomy and trust my decissions.
But let's be honest. Religion has some cool stuff. Having daily rituals helps giving some sense to life. Having a community helps you strive to be better every day, to learn to live socially. And tradition, even if it sometimes suck, gives humanity a sense of continuity, a way of communication betwen our ancestors and us.
Luckily, I recently found buddhism.

Resources
- Secular Buddhism Podcast, by Noah Rasheta. I really like the 5 episodes under the Start here section, and his book No-Nonsense Buddhism for Beginners.
- Everyday Buddhism, another great podcast.
- Alan Peto's website. He has some very good resources on Gumroad. I follow his Daily practice, and its a very good way to start the day!.
- The Atom app is an amazing way of starting a new habit, focused on meditation specifically. It is not specific for buddhism.
- The Medito Foundation is also a great resource to start meditating, with free guided meditations. It is not specific for buddhism.
- BuddhaSutra.com. For me, it's the best, most direct place to read the Sutras. I'm no scholar, so I can't attest the quality of the translation, but I find them to be easy to folow and understand.
