Daily Practice
This is my daily buddhist / self growth practice.
It is mostly based on Alan Peto's Daily Practice.
Take refuge in the Triple Gem
- I take refuge in the Buddha.
- I take refuge in the Dharma.
- I take refuge in the Sangha.
Alternatively, I prefer:
- I take refuge in the Enlightened.
- I take refuge in the Teachings.
- I take refuge in the Community.
Recite the Five Precepts
- I will refrain from killing.
- I will refrain from taking what is not freely given.
- I will refrain from false speech.
- I will refrain from sexual misconduct.
- I will refrain from consuming intoxicants.
Alternatively, I prefer a possitive variant:
- I will respect life.
- I will only take what is freely given.
- I will respect virtuous speech.
- I will respect others' will.
- I will respect my own consciousness.
Recite the Five Remembrances
- I am subject to aging, have not gone beyond aging.
- I am subject to illness, have not gone beyond illness.
- I am subject to death, have not gone beyond death.
- I will grow different, separate from all that is dear and appealing to me.
- I am the owner of my actions, heir to my actions, born of my actions, related through my actions, and have my actions as my arbitrator. Whatever I do, for good or for evil, to that will I fall heir.
Alternatively, I prefer:
- I will age, and that is fair.
- I will be ill, and that is fair.
- I will die, and that is fair.
- Everything changes, and I will grow appart from all that I love.
- I am responsible for my actions, and I am subject to their consequences.
Meditate
Even if it's only 5 or 10 minutes, it's worth it. I usually do Mindful Breathing Meditation.
Dedicate the merits of the practice
For the benefit of all beings without exception, I dedicate all the merit of any virtuous acts, for our common happiness and illumination.
